Commencement of Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic, Official and Service Passports between Colombia and Ghana

The Embassy of Colombia in Ghana celebrates the entry into force of the Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic, Official and Service Passports signed between the two countries in October 2024 during COP16 in Cali.

Subsequently, internal procedures were carried out in each country as a prerequisite for implementation.

During the fourth tour to Africa led by the Vice President of the Republic of Colombia, Francia Márquez, a visit was made to Ghana from December 10, where a bilateral meeting was held between the Deputy Minister of Multilateral Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, Mauricio Jaramillo, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ghana, James Gyakye Quayson, with the participation of the Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Colombia in Ghana, Kelis Moreno.

At the meeting, the parties discussed different issues of mutual interest and, in particular, agreed to begin the implementation of the visa exemption agreement in the weeks to follow, as well as hold the IV Political Consultations in March of this year. From January 6, 2026, the agreement thus began to take effect.

With its effective implementation as of January 2026, this diplomatic achievement will significantly strengthen bilateral ties, facilitating greater exchange and cooperation in the political, economic, and cultural spheres between Colombia and Ghana.
